The Beauty of Wood
Hi. I’m Colin Stroud and I’m a woodturner living along the Polden Hills in Somerset and I’ve been enjoying woodturning for about 15 years.
Every piece of wood has a natural beauty of it’s own and I get a real kick from taking a piece and designing my
projects to enhance this natural beauty for everyone to see.
Unlike other materials such as metal or clay, each piece is, therefore, unique.
I don’t specialise in particular designs. It all depends on the wood.
Most of the wood is grown and sourced locally in the South West, and like many woodturners, I have been known to embarrass my wife by abandoning plans at the sound of an active chainsaw!
I sell my work through local craft fairs, and it is usually on display at the open weekends run by Secret World,
a local animal rescue centre. I do also work with customers to design and make specific items for them.
I belong to the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain and the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen.
I’m also a member of the Burnham on Sea Woodturners Club.
Please take a look at the gallery to see some of my work.
I attended Craft Fairs at Cannington Walled Garden, Hestercombe Gardens and demonstrating at the Mid Somerset Agricultural Show click here
I'm currently arranging events for 2012 and will publish these shortly. click here
